Tips for a healthy spine from maternity to menopause

It’s Mother’s Day on the 10th of March, and we’re shining a light on a subject close to our hearts: the health and well-being of the amazing women in our lives. It’s easy to get caught up in the daily hustle of life, especially for mothers who tirelessly put everyone else’s needs before their own. We sat down with our very own chiropractor, Lucy, to discuss why it’s crucial for women, particularly mothers, to prioritise their physical well-being.

Q: Lucy, why do you think it’s important for women, especially mothers, to focus on their physical health?

Lucy: “From the moment you become a mother, your body undergoes tremendous changes. It’s a beautiful journey, but it’s also physically demanding. Whether it’s carrying your little ones around or bending over to pick up toys, these daily activities can impact your body. Regular chiropractic care can help women adapt to these changes, alleviate discomfort, and improve overall wellness.

Many women start to experience back-related problems for the first time during pregnancy. Visiting a chiropractor can help you assess your problem and advise on any treatment and changes you can make naturally.”

Q: Many mothers feel guilty about taking time for themselves. What would you say to them?

Lucy: “It’s a common sentiment, but I always remind them that taking care of yourself isn’t just for you—it’s for your family too. A healthy, happy mum can engage more fully with her children and tackle the demands of motherhood with energy and vitality. Think of it as setting a positive example for your kids by showing them the importance of self-care and health.”

Q: Can you share how chiropractic care benefits women during different stages of their lives, such as postpartum recovery or during menopause?

Lucy: “Absolutely. Postpartum, many women experience back pain due to changes in their bodies and the physical demands of caring for a newborn. Chiropractic adjustments can help alleviate this pain and improve posture.
